Six on Saturday

Six on Saturday – June 2

It is amazing how quickly time flies as it has been almost a month since my last Six on Saturday post. There has been a crazy amount of work going on in my day-to-day life as heritage gardener, while my courtyard garden at home also keeps me really busy. Continue reading Six on Saturday – June 2

Six on Saturday – April 14

It has been a mini-hiatus of a few weeks for me from compiling a Six on Saturday; however I am glad to get back on the horse. So here are the six images to showcase my last couple of weeks in horticulture. Continue reading Six on Saturday – April 14

Growing dahlias from seed

One of my little projects at home at the moment is my attempts to grow Dahlia ‘Bishops Children’ from seed. All is peachy in the glasshouse
The cucumbers are loving polytunnel life at the moment. I do think cucumbers are one of my favourite to grow (I think i say that about so many different crops, I'm so fickle and each week I've a new favourite)
The earlier of the tomatoes are ripening steadily and we're getting two reasonable harvests a week currently. They're not quite at full steam yet - but not far away. They are being used for tomato water by the chefs for a dish. I did four successional sowings of 4 varieties so should be good for tomatoes all summer and into the autumn in the glasshouse. 🍅
Turnips freshly pulled from the ground. A quick trim, a little wash, and then straight off to the chefs to work their magic
Church of St Andrew by the River Esk. Love the shape, its a unique rectangular church from 1776. A very different style from traditional churches. Had to cross the river by suspension bridge to get to it, which, for someone not good with heights, was quite an adventure.
I do like these curly tomato growing supports spotted in a #greenhouse while exploring Hayton Village Gardens open day for the NGS @nationalgardenscheme
